Childcare? WANTED!

As soon as children enter your life, a well organised childcare arrangement will provide the basis for a successful study/work-family balance. Whether flexible by the hour, institutionally or individually, childminders/nursery/kindergarten/school – we inform you about provisions, establish initial contacts, and support you in the planning phase when searching for a suitable care arrangement.

Managerial staff – what you need to know

  • When it comes to taking leave in connection with newly arrived children, it is helpful to clarify certain questions with your employee in good time.
  • If your employee plans an early re-entry to the workplace, but wishes to work only for a few hours, there are suitable by-the-hour care services available in addition to or in place of a family network.
    Flexible childcare
  • Please note the following when planning holiday leave in a team: all regular childcare facilities in Styria have to close for three weeks at a time. However, they should notify parents of the planned closure as early as possible.
  • unikid & unicare informs you about possible arrangements for school holidays. Certain provisions are also organised on the Uni-Campus.
    SCHOOL'S OUT! ... school's out?
  • If questions on childcare possibilities or school options are already aked during the recruitment phase, please establish contact to unikid & unicare. We inform and support families coming to Graz ahead of their stay.

General/scientific staff – what you need to know

  • Initial care is rarely a regular arrangement, but will rather provide childcare for shorter periods, in order to enable you to take appointments, university courses or do preparations. Relatives, friends, sitters or flexible childcare institutions can provide flexible by-the-hour care. At the same time, this may be a gentle way of getting used to different forms of childcare.
    Flexible childcare
  • As a family with main residence in Graz, you have access to all child care facilities in Graz. The costs are socially graduated and calculated by the City of Graz in relation to your familiy’s income. Conact:
    ABI-Service, abiservice(at)stadt.graz.at, 0316/872-7474.
  • Children between one and three years of age are cared for in nurseries, whereby the age of entry varies. Kindergartens care for children from the age of three until they start school.
  • Childminders care for very small groups of children at their homes for a minimum of 15 hours a week. Kindergarten children and schoolchildren can also be cared for by a childminder – in this case, a main residence in Graz is not required.
  • The official application period for Graz childcare facilities is from mid-January to the beginning of March. Please visit their “get-to-know days” beforehand.
  • Definitely, choose three facilities that suit you regarding their care concept, distances and opening hours.
  • We inform and support families coming to Graz ahead of their stay.
